Today marks the 1 year anniversary of sunnysidefood.com! In this past year, I covered just over 60 local eateries – and there are about as many still left. I originally intended to go to Salt and Fat to celebrate, but I neglected to check that they are actually closed on Mondays. Fortunately, the celebration went on regardless, and we just moved it to the Japanese restaurant Ariyoshi across the street, which I actually already reviewed twice.
Pete, what was this dish called? It was tasty.
I spent a long time thinking about what to order, and finally settled for this $21 sushi and sashimi platter, which also came with a miso soup.
This is a $14 Chirashi – assorted raw fish over vinegar rice (ordinarily white rice, but substituted with brown rice here).
This is a $14 barbecued eel (unadon). Very rich in taste, served over rice – the fish practically melts in your mouth.
No celebration would be complete without some sake. This here is a good one, but we also got a bottle of apple-flavored sake, which was more reminiscent of apple juice than of sake.
