I took a half-day off of work today and went to lunch at Ave Coffee, on the corner of Greenpoint avenue and 45th street. It’s definitely the place to go for bubble tea in Sunnyside, but I’ve rarely eaten anything there, although they actually have a surprisingly good selection for what is ostensibly just a cafe.
Unfortunately the battery on our Nikon D5000 ran out just before we came here, so this and all the other pictures are from my Droid X. Ave Coffee has plenty of tables for eating in, as well as a little counter with stools by the window. There is also free wi-fi for customers.
As an “appetizer” we got a cheese danish ($2) which was somewhat surprisingly very good and fresh tasting!
Ave coffee makes some good bubble tea ($4 for a small) and I frequently get it here during the summer. They have many flavors, including this “thai ice tea” one. The portions are pretty big, so unless you’re really thirsty I recommend just getting a small.
In addition to pastries, they offer a number of sandwiches, wraps, and salads. This is a toasted chicken cutlet ($4 plus 50 cents for the lettuce, cheese, and tomato). They are made-to-order and are quite good. Just keep in mind it takes them some time to make them from scratch, so it’s not fast food.
All the wraps are strangely a dollar more expensive than the sandwiches, even though they are of the same quality, and actually smaller in size.
