I walk by Pecas y Mas on Greenpoint ave near 44th street nearly every day, but today was the first time I actually went in. Actually, technically I didn’t go in, because we were with our dog, but luckily this Colombian restaurant has counter seating on the outside, which is pretty awesome.
“Pecas”, by the way, means “freckles” in Spanish. The menu has many egg-based items, burgers, a few dinner entrees, and a wide selection of smoothies and fruit juices. There are three counter seats outside, and multiple small tables inside. This picture was taken at night, but we went there for a late lunch today.
I was happily surprised to see this eggs & arepa dish ($6.50) came with many vegatables mixed in with the eggs. The arepa is a cornbread, which as you can see came with a huge chunk of mozzarella cheese on top. The dish was good and can certainly compete those served at many of the brunch-oriented restaurants around the neighborhood.
It may not look like much in this picture, but the chicken burger was amazing! And it’s only $5, but they seem to charge extra for additional toppings (such as cheese and onions). The chicken and the sesame bun were perfect. The only thing that would make it better would be if they used something better than American cheese.
This smoothie was really quite something – much better than what you get at various smoothie chains. Fresh fruit, good milk, and the perfect consistency. They cost $3.50 with watere and $4 with milk.

I don’t know… that’s a good question, and a cute name. The logo has a boy with freckles, but that still doesn’t really explain it.
Do you know why they named their restaurant “freckles & more”?
