Because of the freezing temperature outside today, I didn’t want to go far to get food, so I settled for Singas Famous Pizza, only a block away on Greenpoint Ave at 44th street.
This chain specializing in personal pizzas (you can’t get pizza by the slice) is somehow still in business despite being located very close to the far better Marabella‘s and right across from the newly opened Lenny‘s.
The vegetarian specialty pie is in one of the more expensive categories ($7.80) but does contain more toppings than the cheaper pies. It was ok. Just ok.
The bbq chicken pie ($6.50) almost looks like a cheese pizza, but it does in fact contain many pieces of chicken. One is hard-pressed to call it bbq though, and the sogginess of the whole thing really detracts from the taste. The now defunct Tasty Fast Food IV had much better bbq chicken pizza.
Monday-Thursday, ordering any two non-plain pies get you a free cheese pie. This one really illustrates what’s so bad about Singas pizza – the greasy, plasticy taste of the generic cheese and bread really comes out.
